Flexible Mortar
Flexobase™ is a flexible polymer modified fiber reinforced mortar which, when mixed with water, produces a trowellable mixture with excellent adhesive qualities. The mixture sets up to form a thin, flexible layer of impact resistant mortar with excellent adhesion to many substrates.
Uses
Flexobase™ is used:
• Very effective in smoothing imperfections on masonry surfaces prior to over coating with various Sealoflex Finishing Products. For example: Flexobase™, skimmed over
a concrete block or brick surface will hide joint lines in the surface.
• Used as the base layer for the Coraflex™ EIFS system over substrates such as expanded polystyrene, to form a hard, flexible, impact resistant shell to the substrate.
Advantages
• Flexobase™ is a single component product which only requires the addition of water.
• Once cured, Flexobase™ forms a flexible, impact resistant layer.
• Flexobase™ provides excellent adhesion to a wide variety of building substrates (e.g. wood, EPS, masonry, brick, block, concrete).
• Crack resistant
Mixing
Pour 3 quarts of clean water into a clean 5 gal. or larger container. Slowly add the Flexobase™ into the container, mixing continuously using a 1/2” power drill or paddle. Adjust consistency with clean water. The product should be a trowellable consistency.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces (substrate) should be sound, clean and free of oil, grease, dirt and loosely adhering particles. Apply over approved surfaces only. For optimum adhesion to masonry surfaces, saturate the area with water immediately prior to application to prevent premature drying.
Application
Base Coat Over EPS
Using a stainless steel trowel, apply Flexobase™ to the prepared EPS surface at thickness of 1/16”. All exposed edges of EPS board must be fully coated with Flexobase™. Allow to cure at least 24 hours, before applying Coraflex™ or Sealcoat Elastic™.
Base Coat Over Masonry
Using a stainless steel trowel, apply Flexobase™ to the dampened surface. Apply a thickness sufficient to hide the imperfections of the masonry surface.
Curing
In dry or hot conditions, mist with clean water after initial set for the first 24 hours.
Cleaning
Tools and equipment may be cleaned with water immediately after use. Cured Flexobase™ can only be removed mechanically.
Precautions
CAUTION!
Prolonged skin contact with Flexobase™ may cause irritation. Avoid contact with eyes. Store product in cool, shaded, dry area prior to use.
Use of NIOSH approved vapor respirator and safety glasses are recommended.
Do not inhale powder.
