Wearcoat™ Non-Skid

Abrasion resistant floor, wall & maintenance coating

Wearcoat™ is a flat waterbased emulsion floor, wall and maintenance coating displaying good abrasion resistance and excellent adhesion characteristics. Wearcoat™ is available in a smooth, or non-skid version containing aggregate. Wearcoat™ Clear is a glossy, transparent, durable coating also displaying good abrasion resistance and excellent adhesion characteristics.
An aggregate is added for Non-Skid benefits.

Uses

Wearcoat™ is designed for use in commercial, industrial and residential environments as a coating over wood, concrete and steel substrates. Typical applications are:
• Decks and balconies
• Concrete pathways, pool surrounds and boardwalks
• Wall coatings in Hospitals, Clinics, and Schools
• Structural steel and wrought ironwork
• Wearcoat™ Clear may be used as a durable, clear concrete sealer

Advantages

• Forms tough film
• Good chemical resistance
• Good abrasion resistance
• Dries quickly to give early “walk on” ability
• Can be applied to a non-skid finish if required
• Water based for easy wash up of application equipment
• Easy to patch damaged or worn patches in areas of excessive traffic.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from oil, dirt, grease or loosely adhering particles. Concrete must be free of laitance and steel surfaces free of scale and rust. This may be achieved by sandblasting, wet blasting, or grinding.
Never prepare concrete surfaces by acid etching as this will weaken the surface.  Sealopatch™ and/or Corabase™ maybe used to repair uneven or marred concrete surfaces.
Priming
Masonry and concrete surfaces should be primed with one coat of Sealobond Primer WB™. If concrete surfaces on grade have no vapor barrier below, prime with Sealoment Plus™. Prime unprotected steel surfaces with one coat of Rust-X 2020™ on previously rusted surfaces and one coat of Metal Etch Primer™. If steel is sandblasted to shop quality, Rust-X 2020™ maybe omitted. No priming is necessary when applying to a new Sealoflex System™ or Sealoment Plus™ finish,
Wood: apply 1 coat of Sealoflex Pink® at a rate of 100 sq. ft./gal.

Application

Wearcoat™ may be applied by brush or nap roller to achieve a smooth finish. Different textures can be achieved by:
• Using aggregate filled Wearcoat™ applied with a nap roller to form a high performance non-skid finish
• Always apply two cots of Wearcoat™ for best results
• Broadcasting with silica sand. This can only be done in small manageable areas but is very effective for high traffic areas or areas of high abrasion, e.g. stair treads and entry ways. Mask off the area to be treated. Apply an even, heavy coat of Wearcoat™ to the specific area. Immediately broadcast with fine silica sand (e.g. grade 65) until coating is completely covered with the sand. Allow to dry. Sweep or vacuum away excess sand. Apply a liberal coat of Wearcoat™ to finish. These areas will be significantly thicker than the surrounding coating and will withstand much more wear.
• If a glossy finish is required, Wearcoat™ Clear is applied over the pigmented wearcoat surface by brush, roller or spray at 180 sq.ft./gal.

Cleaning

Clean tools and equipment with water. Cured Wearcoat™ may be removed with Quickclean™ water soluble solvent available from Sealoflex, Inc.
