UV-Resistant Decorative Metallic Roof Coating
Metalflex™ is a highly Ultraviolet resistant and tough coating specifically designed for roofing applications. It is a waterbased low VOC product with excellent mildew and algae resistance. Metalflex™ displays a glossy metallic finish to emulate copper and other metal roof finishes.
Uses
Metalflex™ is used:
- To produce high quality metallic finishes on existing metal roofs
- To create standing seam copper or other metal roof replicas with the Metalflex™ Standing Seam System (patent pending)
- To coat existing roof accessories such as flashings, gutters, drain pipes to create a copper or metallic appearance
- As a protective coating over mill finished galvanized or Galvalume®
Advantages
MetalflexTM displays the following advantages:
- Ultraviolet and Ozone resistant.
- Excellent resistance to algae and mildew growth
- Water based for easy clean up.
- Environmentally safe with low VOC
- Adheres to almost any roof or building substrate.
Mixing
CAUTION: Mix Metalflex™ well before use, as pigment will settle over time.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces must be dry, clean and free of dust, loosely adhering particles, oil or grease. Particular care must be taken to degrease new galvanized surfaces.
Priming
Unprotected Iron or Steel must be primed with Rust-X 2020™ followed by Sealoflex Metal Etch Primer™.
Existing Painted Surfaces must be primed with Sealobond Primer WB™.
Clean Non-Ferrous Metals need not be primed.

Application
Metalflex™ may be brush, spray or roller applied. To spray and apply Metalflex ™ use airless spraying equipment. This will provide a good atomized spray pattern. Metalflex™ must be applied in a thin layer and allowed to set briefly before a second or third layer is applied. The build up of thin layers is necessary to develop an optimal metallic finish. For roller application use a 1/2” (or less) nap roller.
Caution: Mix Metalflex™ well before use, as pigment will settle over time.
As a Waterproof System
Metalflex™ should only be used as the final coating to roof coating system. To waterproof a roof surface, use the appropriate Sealoflex system. Instead of applying 2 coats of Sealoflex Finish Coat™, apply one coat at the rate of 140 sq.ft./gal. before 2 or more final coats of Metalflex™ are applied to give the required effect.
Sealoflex Standing Seam System™: Consult the application guide sheet available from Sealoflex Inc.
Cleaning
Metalflex™ can be rinsed with water. Dried Metalflex™ can be dissolved with Quickclean™ and then rinsed with water.
Precautions
Brush, roller and spray applications will give different surface effects. Care must be taken when using different application methods on the same project that variations in finish do not create an undesirable result.
Important Notes
CAUTION!
When using aluminum colored Metalflex™, do not apply the aluminum coating directly to galvanized uncoated metal surfaces. Uncoated galvanized metal surfaces must be primed with Metal Etch Primer™.
