Sealothane NS™

1-Component Low-Modulus Polyurethane Caulk

A 1-component polyurethane-based non-sag sealant, which cures by exposure to moisture to form a tough and highly elastic seal.

Complies with Fed Spec
TT-S-00230C, Type II, Class A:
ASTMC-920, Type S, Grade NS, Class 25, use T, NT, M. Tested to ASTM C-132 for use in EIFS Systems.

Uses

Sealothane NS™ is used for movement and construction joints to form a permanently flexible seal.
Examples are:
- Between pre-cast concrete elements
- Around window and door frames
- Flashing
- Reglets
Sealothane NS™ may also be used as a flexible adhesive to bond building elements together.

Advantages

Sealothane NS™ possesses excellent adhesion to the following building materials:
- Concrete and brick
- Natural and artificial stone
- Glass and ceramics
- Aluminum and stainless steel
In addition Sealothane NS™:
- Can tolerate +100% to -50% joint width movement
- Is resistant to fuel
- Has exceptional cut and tear resistance
- Is paintable

Application

Priming
Sealothane NS™ usually has excellent adhension to concrete, masonry and brick. For maximum performance where conditions of joint surface may be suspect, prime with Sealobond Primer WB™. No primer needed on ceramic, glass, stainless steel, aluminum and nonferrous metals. Use Sealobond Primer WB™ on insulated concrete, cement renders, asbestos cement and plaster.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces must be dry and free if dust, loosely adhering particles, oil or grease.  All traces of release agent silicone treatment must be removed from the joint faces. Glass and ceramic surfaces should be wiped with naphtha.
Backing Strip/ Bondbreakers
In open joints the correct depth should be established by inserting non-adhering, cylindrical shaped polyethylene foam strips. Where the joints have been constructed with fiberboard, this should be raked back to the correct depth and a bondbreaker strip should be inserted.

Cleaning

Clean all tools and equipment with Sealoflex Quickclean™ immediately after use. Cured material can only be removed mechanically. Remove masking tape within 1 hour after application.

Precautions

• Combustible; Keep away from open flames and high heat. Contains Xylene.
• Avoid breathing vapors
• Use with adequate ventilation
• Irritant. Avoid skin and eye contact.  Use of NIOSH approved vapor aspirator, safety glasses and chemical resistant gloves recommended.
• First Aid:
In case of contact with skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
For eye contact, flush immediately with clear water for at least 15 minutes.
     Contact physician.

Important Notes

Joint Configuration
For the successful function of Sealothane NS™, it is recommended that the following guidelines of joint configuration be observed.

  • For joints up to 3/8” wide:  Width: Depth ratio is 1:1
  • For joints over 3/8” wide:   Width: Depth ratio is 2:1

Maximum depth must not exceed 1/2” and Minimum depth must not be less than 1/4”.
