Corabase™

Base Coat for Coraflex System and Ceramic Tile Adhesive

Corabase™ is a polymer modified portland cement powder which, when mixed with water produces a creamy trowellable mixture with excellent adhesive qualities. The material sets up to form a thin layer waterproof mortar with excellent adhesion to many substrates.

Uses

• Corabase™ is used as a ceramic tile adhesive for bonding tile to Sealoflex CT™ waterproofing system or other conventional ceramic tile substrates.
• It is used very effectively to smooth imperfections on masonry surfaces prior to coating over with various finishing systems. For example: Corabase™ skimmed over a concrete block or brick surface will hide joint lines in the surface.
• When such a surface is then treated with an application of Coraflex™ it will create a finish of a colored stucco wall.
• Corabase™ is used as the base layer for the Coraflex™ EIFS system in conjunction with Coraflex Fabric™ over substrates such as expanded polystyrene to form a hard waterproof shell to the substrate.

Advantages

• Corabase™ is a single component product which only requires the addition of water.
• Once it has cured, it forms a waterproof layer.
• It provides excellent adhesion to a wide variety of building substrates (e.g. wood, EPS, masonry, brick, block, concrete).

Mixing

Pour 3 quarts of clean water into a clean 5 gal. or larger container. Slowly add the Corabase™ into the container, mixing continuously using a 1/2” power drill or paddle. Adjust consistency with clean water. The product should be a creamy trowellable consistency.

Surface Preparation

Surfaces (substrate) should be sound, clean and free of oil, grease, dirt and loosely adhering particles. Apply over approved surfaces only. For optimum adhesion to masonry surfaces, saturate the area immediately prior to application to prevent premature drying of the mixture.

Application

Tile Adhesive Application
Apply using a 1/4” square notch trowel to surface of Sealoflex CT™ System or masonry substrate leaving a distinct comb pattern. Immediately apply ceramic tile to the wet Corabase™ and allow to cure.  Do not create a continuous tile panel greater than 10 feet in any direction without allowing for a flexible grout joint filled with a flexible single part polyurethane sealant.
EPS Application
Using a 1/4” square notch trowel apply Corabase™ mixture to entire surface of the EPS to be adhered to the substrate. Immediately adhere the board to the prepared surface. It is advisable to use the straight edge to apply pressure across joints of adjacent panels to achieve continuous plane surface.  Ensure that all joints are tightly butted together. Allow 24 hours to cure before commencing with application of Corabase™ with fabric mesh.
Base Coat Application EPS
Using a stainless steel trowel, apply the Corabase™ to the prepared EPS surface at thickness of 1/16”.  Immediately fully imbed the fabric mesh into the wet Corabase™ pressing into the surface with the trowel until the surface of the fabric is not visible. Adjacent runs of fabric must be lapped by a minimum of 2 inches. All exposed edges of EPS board must be fully wrapped with system mesh. Allow to cure for at least 24 hours before commencing with Coraflex™.
Base Coat Application Over Masonry
Using a stainless steel trowel, apply the Corabase™ to the dampened surface.  Apply a thickness sufficient to hide the imperfections of the masonry surface (1/8” to 1/16” thick). The coverage of 80 to 120 sq .ft. per 50# bag can be expected at the recommended thickness.  Allow to cure for at least 24 hours before commencing with the application of the Coraflex™ or Sealcoat Elastic™.

Cleaning

Tools and equipment may be cleaned with water immediately after use. Cured Corabase™ can only be removed mechanically.

Precautions

CAUTION!
Prolonged skin contact with Corabase™ may cause irritation. Avoid contact with eyes.
