The Miami-Dade County Product Control Approval System was established to allow new and innovative ideas to be developed into useful, practical, lasting and safe products.
The Product Control Division, a link between the manufacturing and construction industries, provides oversight of this relationship to minimize the probabilities of Code violations. They review and issue approvals based on the Florida Building Code. Requirements for approval are limited to those components which protect the envelope of the building from being breached, and to roofing systems. Approvals are conveyed through the issuance of a Notice of Acceptance (NOA) from the Product Control Division prior to construction. Although named "Miami-Dade Product Control Approvals”, the entire approval system is accepted in other counties.
History of the Florida Building Code
After Hurricane Andrew struck Florida in August 1992, research showed that that catastrophic structural failure was largely due to the inability to enforce and comply with the multiple codes and administrative processes in effect for the building code system in Florida. It became clear that a single, statewide building code system was needed. Thus, the Florida Building Code System was born. It incorporates building, electric, plumbing, mechanical, and administrative codes—accessibility, energy, coastal, manufactured, and state agency codes. All Products must comply with standards established by the code and their use must be approved by the Building Official. Certain new products and panel walls, external doors, roofing, skylights, windows, shutters and certain structural components may obtain approval by the commission for statewide use as appropriate. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
Why choose ENERGY STAR reflective roofing for your building?
• ENERGY STAR qualified roof products reflect more of the sun's rays. This can lower roof surface temperature by up to 100F, decreasing the amount of heat transferred into a building.
• ENERGY STAR qualified roof products can help reduce the amount of air conditioning needed in buildings, and can reduce peak cooling demand by 10–15 percent.
Sealoflex Finish Coat™ and Sealoflex ReflectoWhite™ have earned the ENERGY STAR rating.
The Energy Star Program only applies in the United States.
The Florida Power and Light Building Envelope Program can help the consumer save on energy costs by providing incentives for adding or installing various building components, including Reflective Roofs.
Sealoflex Finish Coat and Sealoflex ReflectoWhite are both approved by FPL for these incentives.
